REPUBLIC OF GAGAUZ OPENS A REPRESENTATIVE
OFFICE IN THE TRNC
President of the Autonomous Republic of Gagauz Mikhail
Makarovich Formuzal who came to the TRNC in order to attend the graduation
ceremony of the Near East University announced that the Republic of Gagauz
has opened a representative office which will serve in the fields of
culture, education and economy. Explaining that the representative office
has been opened at the Near East University Formuzal said besides education
they also wanted to establish relations with the TRNC in the fields of
economy and culture.
Speaking during his visit to the Chairman of the Cyprus
Turkish Chamber of Industry Salih Tunar Formuzal stated that trade relations
to be established between the TRNC and Gagauz were very important.
Explaining that the first step towards developing
relations between the two countries has been taken by Founding Rector of the
Near East University Dr. Suat Gunsel by giving scholarships to Gagauz
students, Formuzal said they wanted to take the second step by establishing
business relations with the TRNC businessmen.
Pointing out that there are development projects,
developments areas and free areas in Gagauz, Formuzal said the details with
regard to these will be conveyed to the Cyprus Turkish Chamber of Industry
and added that contacts would be beneficial for both Turkish Cypriot and
Gagauz businessmen.
For his part, Chairman of Cyprus Turkish Chamber of
Industry Salih Tunar stated that Gagauz President Formuzal’s visit to the
TRNC has been an important step for the beginning of the relations between
the TRNC and the Republic of Gagauz.
Explaining that the decision of the Near East University
to give scholarships to 12 Gagauz students every year was also a very
important development, Tunar said by establishing business relations besides
education would contribute to the economies of both countries. Tunar
expressed readiness to establish cooperation with the Republic of Gagauz.
Meanwhile, the Near East University Rector Dr. Suat
Gunsel and the President of the Autonomous Republic of Gagauz Mikhail
Makarovich Formuzal signed a protocol envisaging cooperation in the field of
education between the two countries yesterday (26 June).
According to the statement issued by the Near East
University, the pre-cooperation protocol envisaging cooperation in the
fields of education, science and techniques which was signed between the
Near East University and the Republic of Gagauz in Gagauz one month ago has
been confirmed yesterday with the signing of an official cooperation
protocol.
Meanwhile, announcing that they will open a Consular
office in the TRNC stated that after his meeting with Prime Minister Ferdi
Sabit Soyer the law necessary for the appointment of the Consular has been
passed at the TRNC Parliament.
