MOLLER BRIEFED THE 5 PERMANENT MEMBER STATES’
REPRESENTATIVES ON CYPRUSERCAKICA: "DURING THE
MEETING IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE TURKISH SIDE’S PROPOSAL
WAS WITHIN THE 8 JULY AGREEMENT AND THE AIM WAS TO START THE
SUBSTANTIVE NEGOTIATIONS PROCESS"
Presidential Spokesman Hasan Ercakica responding to TAK
reporter’s questions on Wednesday’s meeting of Lefkosa
Ambassadors of 5 permanent member countries of the UN
Security Council, said "during the meeting it was confirmed
that the Turkish side’s proposal was within the 8 July
agreement and the aim was to start the substantive
negotiations process".
He added that the evaluation made at the meeting between
the UN Secretary General’s Special Representative for Cyprus
Michael Moller and the Ambassadors was in conformity with
the Turkish side’s stance.
He said at the meeting no criticism was made to the
Turkish Cypriot side’s stance with regard to the 5 September
meeting between President Talat and the Greek Cypriot Leader
Papadopolous.
PERTEV EVALUATED HIS VISIT TO BRUSSELS
Presidential Undersecretary Rasit Pertev has said that
issues of Green Line, Financial Aid Regulations and the
Direct Trade Regulation were taken up in detail during his
contacts in Brussels.
The Presidential Undersecretary Rasit Pertev who returned
to the Republic Wednesday night evaluated his 3 day visit to
Brussels to the TAK and said during his meetings with the EU
officials he discussed various issues about the Turkish
Cypriots.
He also said he had the opportunity to hold a one hour
meeting with the EU Commissioner for Enlargement Olli Rehn
during which the Cyprus issue was mainly discussed.
‘I informed Mr Rehn on the meeting between the two
leaders in 5th of September and told him that during the
meeting Turkish Cypriot Side had proposed for the immediate
resumption of the negotiations process and to take the end
of 2008 as a target for a solution, but Greek Cypriot Side
had rejected all the proposals’ Mr Pertev added.
Responding to a question Pretev said he also discusses
the two Regulation in detail with Rehn.
Stating that he had fruitful meetings with EU officials,
the Presidential Undersecretary said his visit was echoed
peculiarly in the Greek Cypriot press but added that this
was not the first time to hold meetings with EU officials.
CRISIS GROUP : "PAPADOPOLOUS IS AN OBSTANCE
INFRONT OF A SETTLEMENT"
Greek Cypriot daily Fileleftheros in his report entitled
"It might be necessary for Papadopolous to withdraw,if it
was desired to reach a settlement" stated that the Crisis
Group has featured Papadopolous as a hard liner leader who
should withdraw if it was desired to reach a settlement.
The newspaper reported that the think tank organization
called Cisis Goup representative Hugh Pope, hile submitting
his report on Turkey stated that the Greek Cypriot Leader
Tasos Papadopolous had made default on supporting the Annan
Plan and featured Papadopolous as a hard liner leader, ho
should withdraw if it was desired to reach a settlement.
