PRESIDENT TALAT: “INTERNATIONAL ISOLATION HAS BEEN
DEEPENING”
President
Mehmet Ali Talat speaking during the opening ceremony of the
5th International Gazimagusa Symposium organized
by the Eastern Mediterranean University and Gazimagusa
Municipality stated that the isolation on the Turkish
Cypriot people has been deepening.
President Talat
complained that the Greek Cypriot administration was
immediately taking action against every single initiative
launched by the Turkish Cypriot people towards ending its
isolation.
Talat explained
that after the Greek Cypriot side had got out of the
pressures exerted on them because of their rejection of the
Annan plan in April 2004 referendum, they started a big
struggle in order to prevent the lifting of the Turkish
Cypriots’ isolation.
The President complained that the Greek Cypriot side has
been trying to downgrade the importance of all initiatives
towards lifting the isolation by calling the isolation as
`unreal` but pointed out that only the Greek Cypriot
administration and Greece are calling the isolation `as
unreal`.
The President noted that the lifting of the isolation could
take long time but said the Turkish Cypriot side should
continue its struggle with determination as there were
positive developments on the issue.
He also underlined the need for the Turkish Cypriot people
to explain the difficulties it has been facing to the
international community and to formulate contemporary ideas
for the solution of the Cyprus problem.
