FOREIGN MINISTER AVCI:
“ASIAN COUNTRIES HAVE ACKNOWLEDGED THAT IT IS THE GREEK
CYPRIOT SIDE WHICH DOES NOT WANT PEACE”
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of
Foreign Affairs Turgay Avcý stated that after the
Islamic world the Asian countries have also begun to
realize that it was the Greek Cypriot side which did not
want peace in Cyprus.
In a statement Foreign Minister Avcý
referred to the paragraph on Cyprus in the decision
taken by the Political Problems Commission of the Second
General Assembly of Asian Parliamentary Assembly which
took place in Tehran last week.
Pointing out that despite the Greek
Cypriot side’s initiatives, the said paragraph was
included in the decision; Avcý said he evaluated the
paragraph as very well- balanced.
Avcý explained that the paragraph on
Cyprus in the Commission’s decision made a call ‘for
finding a just, comprehensive and acceptable solution in
the island under the auspices of the United Nations’.
Avcý added that the Greek Cypriot representatives who
attended the meeting tried to include a paragraph which
referred to Turkey and the TRNC as an ‘occupier’ and a
‘pseudo state’ respectively and accused Turkey ‘for
preventing the solution efforts’, but their initiatives
failed.
Foreign Minister Avcý stated that
after the Islamic world Asian countries have also
started to acknowledge that it was the Greek Cypriot
side which did not want peace in Cyprus. Avcý said the
TRNC Foreign Ministry was carrying out intensive
contacts and initiatives and explaining the Cyprus’
realities in this very important part of the world.
Avcý said he was very pleased to
observe that the Greek Cypriot side’s true colors were
being realized more and more by the world.
