FOREIGN MINISTER AVCI RECEIVED MACEDONIAN FOUNDING PRIME MINISTER KLJUSEV

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Turgay Avcý yesterday (12 November) received a Macedonian delegation headed by the founding Prime Minister, President of Macedonian Sciences Academy Strategic Research Center and Executive Member of Foreign Investments Agency Nikola Kljusev who came to the TRNC to attend the ceremonies marking the 24th anniversary of the establishment of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

Speaking during the visit Nikola Kljusev expressed his country’s willingness to take steps towards improving cooperation with the TRNC.

Stating that warm-hearted Turkish Cypriot people made him to feel himself at home, Kljusev said his country would always be by the side of Turkish Cypriots.

Kljusev pointed out that the Greek Cypriot side was creating problems for Turkey, Macedonia and TRNC, adding that the future should be established by laying aside chauvinism and the past.

Underlining that sport, cultural, commercial and every kind of relations should be established between the TRNC and Azerbaijan, Kljusev said: “Therefore, we could convince those who don’t want us.”

Explaining that the two countries should discuss the ways of improving cooperation between them, Kljusev said the Foreign Investments Agency in Azerbaijan was a turning point for them.

For his part, Foreign Minister Avcý expressed pressure for hosting Kljusev and his accompanying delegation in the TRNC.

Foreign Minister Avcý announced that he would pay a visit to Macedonia in the near future.

Avcý explaining that the Turkish Cypriot people had not come to these days very easily, did not want to experience the painful years of the past again, said the isolation imposed upon the Turkish Cypriot people would be overcome with the support of friendly countries like Macedonia.

Stating that this visit have created the opportunity to improve bilateral relations between the two countries, Avcý said the TRNC and Macedonia could establish close relations in many fields such as trade, education, culture, arts and sports.

Pointing to the Greek Cypriot side’s attempts to dampen the improving relations between the TRNC and other countries, Avcý said despite this, the relations established would be further strengthened; representative offices would be established in these countries such efforts of the Turkish Cypriots would continue.

Stressing that the Turkish Cypriot people had come to these days with the help of Turkey, Avcý said: “This beautiful country is your home; Turkish Cypriot people are embracing you.”

 

AZERBAIJANI JOURNALISTS VISIT THE TRNC

With the organization of the Asian Dialogue Social Union and Caucasian Media Support Project, which are NGOs (nongovernmental organization) operating in Azerbaijan, a delegation consisting of 15 Azerbaijani journalists working in various newspapers, televisions and news agencies came to the TRNC.

The aim of this project, which has been also supported by the TRNC Foreign Ministry and Turkish International Cooperation and Development Agency (TIKA), is to enable Azerbaijani journalists to observe the problems in the TRNC on site and reflect them on Azerbaijani public opinion, to improve the relations between the TRNC and Azerbaijan and to further promote the TRNC in Azerbaijan.

According to the statement issued by the Asian Dialogue Social Union, the visit of the delegation of journalists was the first leg of the lobbying activities carried out by the TRNC and Azerbaijan, which aimed to improve the relations between the two. It was pointed out that Azerbaijani journalists besides meeting with the ruling and opposition parties in the TRNC, would also carry out contacts at the Near East University and BRT Television in the country.
