FOREIGN MINISTER AVCI:
“WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO TRAVEL TO OIC COUNTRIES WITH TRNC PASSPORTS”
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister
of Foreign Affairs Turgay Avcý, speaking at the 34th OIC (Organization
of Islamic Conference) Foreign Ministers Meeting, requested that
Turkish Cypriots should be able to travel to the OIC countries with
TRNC passports, just like they could travel to the USA and Britain.
Foreign Minister Avcý also stated
that it was important for the Turkish Cypriot side to improve its
relations with and to open new representations in the OIC member
countries, in terms of making the Turkish Cypriots’ vision better
understood and for achieving further development in every field,
especially in the absence of a comprehensive settlement on the island.
Pointing out that they wanted to
open Turkish Cypriot trade and tourism offices in the OIC countries,
Avcý thanked to Qatar, Oman and Kuwait for allowing the TRNC to open
representative offices in their countries.
Avcý reiterated the TRNC’s request
for taking its rightful place at the OIC through the upgrading of its
observer status to full membership.
