PRIME MINISTER SOYER IN GERMANY...
SOYER: “DECISION TO LIFT THE ISOLATION SHOULD BE IMPLEMENTED”
Prime Minister Ferdi Sabit Soyer went to Germany on
Friday (4 May) upon the invitation of Deputy-Chairman of the Social
Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) Parliamentary Group - MP with the Social
Democrat Party from Hessen, Jurgen Walter.
Prime Minister Soyer, who carried various contacts in
state of Hessen, visited Hessen Parliament Building on Saturday (5 May)
and attended a conference, entitled ‘the Cyprus Reality’ organized by
Frankfurt Turkish-German Club yesterday (6 May). Speaking during the
conference Soyer stated that the Turkish Cypriot side was expecting their
isolation to be lifted during Germany’s EU Term Presidency in accordance
with the decision taken by the EU in 2004,
Explaining Cyprus’ historical role within the Europe
and the Middle East, Prime Minister Soyer stressed that the decision taken
by EU member states at Helsinki meeting in 1999 to accept the Greek
Cypriot side into the EU was wrong.
Underlining that the Turkish Cypriot people was
demanding the right for representation like other countries in the world,
Soyer said that the Turkish Cypriot people are making efforts to gain
equal rights and representation on the island.
For his part, the Deputy-Chairman of the Social
Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) Parliamentary Group - MP with the Social
Democrat Party from Hessen, Jurgen Walter pointed out that Germany
expected to see positive developments in Cyprus during its EU Term
Presidency and said: “There are two separate peoples and religions in
Cyprus. Cyprus will be a model for the whole world if a peaceful
federation is established between the two people of the island”.
Referring to the relations between Germany and France
Walter said they had improved their relations by developing trade between
them.
Walter called on everybody to fulfill all their
responsibilities to enable the free trade of goods in North Cyprus.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Soyer and Minister of Public
Works and Transportation Salih Usar attended a reception held by Turkish
Consul General to Frankfurt Salih Bogac Guldere in their honour.
