PAKISTANI MINISTER OF EDUCATION IN THE TRNC

The Minister of Education of Pakistan Islamic Republic Javed Ashraf Qazi who came to the TRNC on Sunday (18 March) is continuing his contacts in the Republic.

As part of his contacts, Ashraf Qazi first met with the Minister of National Education and Culture Canan Oztoprak yesterday (19 March) and later was received by President Mehmet Ali Talat, the Speaker of the Parliament Fatma Ekenoglu and Prime Minister Ferdi Sabit Soyer.

Minister of National Education and Culture Canan Oztoprak speaking before the meeting stated that they invited Qazi as a result of the friendly relations established between them during her visit to Pakistan in February 2006.

For his part, the Pakistani Minister expressing pleasure to be in the TRNC pointed out that there were many Pakistani students studying in the TRNC and that he would have the opportunity to learn the views of these students about the education system in the country during his visits to the universities.

Qazi also visited the Head of the Higher Education Board, (YODAK), Tahir Celik, the members of the board and university rectors.

Speaking before the meeting, Tahir Celik explained that they would exchange views about the education systems in the TRNC and Pakistan.

Also speaking before the meeting, Qazi pointed out that Turkish Cypriots were very friendly and said: “Especially after the earthquake in Pakistan, when I saw the aid provided by the TRNC, I had no doubts about this. We were very much appreciated. Also, Turkey granted the biggest aid and was the first country to send its team there. We are very grateful to our brothers in Turkey and the TRNC”.
