29 MORE MISSING PERSONS IDENTIFIED
As a result of continuing
analyses on the remains of missing persons in Cyprus, who have
been found during the exhumation studies in both Turkish and
Greek Cypriot sides, 29 more missing persons have been
identified. It’s been determined that 6 of the 29 persons, which
have been identified, are Turkish Cypriots and the total number
of identified missing persons has reached to 57.
Speaking to the Cyprus Turkish
News Agency, Turkish Cypriot Member of the Autonomous Missing
Persons Committee Gulden Plumer Kucuk stated that while the
excavations were continuing across the island, identity
identification studies were continuing uninterrupted.
Explaining that following the
handing over of the remains of 28 Alaminyo missing martyrs, 13
Turkish Cypriot and 15 Greek Cypriot, to their families, remains
of 29 more missing persons, 6 Turkish Cypriot and 23 Greek
Cypriot, have been identified, Kucuk said the remains would be
handed over on a date to be set by the families themselves
following the same procedure applied to the Alaminyo Martyrs
identified earlier.
Kucuk pointed out that until
now, the Committee exhumed the remains of 300 missing persons
and the identity identification studies would continue
periodically.
Kucuk added that the
excavations were continuing in Taskent in South Cyprus and
Mesarya in North Cyprus.
The Autonomous Missing Persons
Committee have been carrying out excavation and identity
identification studies for the last two-and-a-half years, in
order to find around 2 thousand missing persons, which 500 out
of this are Turkish Cypriots.
