STATEMENT BY THE PRESIDENTIAL SPOKESMAN  ERCAKICA
“The crisis over oil exploration bears political purposes”

LYNN PASCOE APPOINTED AS THE NEW UN UNDERSECRETARY GENERAL FOR POLITICAL AFFAIRS

STATEMENT BY THE PRESIDENTIAL SPOKESMAN  ERCAKICA
“The crisis over oil exploration bears political purposes”

It has been stated by the TRNC Presidency that the crisis created by the Greek Cypriot Administration concerning the oil explorations bears political purposes.

At the weekly press conference held by the TRNC Presidential Spokesman Mr. Hasan Ercakica, it has been stated that the main purpose of the Greek Cypriot Administration is not promoting the welfare of its people by prospecting or exploring the oil resources in the sea but changing the route of the Cyprus Issue in line with their own purposes by employing new crises.

Spokesman Mr. Ercakica said that by making out the said crisis as the case, Greek Cypriot Leader Tassos Papadopoulos is trying to portray his administration as the legal administration and by doing so, keeps the rhetoric of “his sovereign state” on the agenda.

Stressing that the Greek Cypriot Leader Tassos Papadopoulos is not in control of the whole Cyprus Spokesman Mr. Ercakica said “He is very well aware of the fact that the Republic of Cyprus is not a sovereign state without the participation of the Turkish Cypriots”.

Spokesman Mr. Ercakica also said that the actions of the Greek Cypriot Leader that led to the said crisis give the impression of being artificially created to the end of employing “useful material” for the Presidency election that will be held in the Greek Cypriot Administration.

Underlining the fact that since Mr. Papadopoulos’ government is not sovereign in the whole Cyprus it does not have the right to sign international agreements or call for tenders regarding the oil resources Spokesman Mr. Ercakica added that “The international agreements regarding the natural resources in the seas require the relevant countries to settle on the issue. These resources should lead to cooperation instead of international conflicts”.
