REPUBLIC’S ASSEMBLY HELD AN EXRTA-ORDINARY MEETING YESTERDAY
PRESIDENT TALAT: “IMPORTANT DEVELOPMENTS HAVE BEEN OCCURING IN THE CYPRUS
ISSUE”
TRNC Republic’s Assembly held an extra-ordinary meeting
yesterday. President Mehmet Ali Talat informed the members of the
parliament on the latest developments of the Cyprus issue.
The first extra-ordinary meeting of the assembly’s this
legislative year, was held in the form of a closed session upon the
proposal of the government. The Speaker of the Parliament Fatma Ekenoglu
headed the meeting.
Following
yesterday’s meeting, the assembly’s extra-ordinary meetings will
continue on 19, 20, and 21 February and the members of the parliament
will express their views.
President Talat speaking to reporters before entering the
meeting said important developments were experienced in the Cyprus issue
and added that he would inform the MPs on these developments.
Responding to a question on the appointment of the American
Diplomat Lynn Paskoe as the new UN Undersecretary General for Political
Affairs, following Ibrahim Gambari, President Talat said, Paskoe knew the
Cyprus issue and the difficulties being faced.

Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Turgay Avci will go to London on
Wednesday in order to have contacts and listen to the problems of the
Turkish Cypriots living in UK.
Turgay Avci will listen to the problems of the Turkish
Cypriots living there and will have meetings with various Turkish
Cypriot NGOs and institutions. Avcý will also visit the Turkish
Cypriot’s broadcasting organs in UK.
On the first day of their visit, Avcý and his accompanying
delegation will visit the TRNC’s London Representative. On Thursday Avci
will meet with the members of Council of Turkish Cypriot Organizations,
Turkish Cypriot Community Center,
UK
Turkish Football Federation and Democracy Association. Foreign Minister
Avci will also hold a press meeting on Thursday night at Acapulco
Banqueting Suite for public.
Friday morning Foreign Minister Avci will meet with the
members of the press during the breakfast at The Park Lane Hotel and
afterwards will meet with the “Embargoed” group. Turgay Avcý will also
visit Olay, Toplum Postasý, and London newspapers and participate to a
meeting with Turkish Cypriots at Wood Green Palace Banqueting Suite.
Foreign Minister Avci will give an interview at the London
Turkish Radio on Saturday morning and will meet with Turkish Cypriot
businessmen in the afternoon. At Saturday night Avci will participate
to Namik Kemal Graduates Ball.
Foreign Minister Avci and his accompanying delegation will
return to the TRNC on Sunday.
