GREEK CYPRIOT POLICE’S
VANDALISM
The Greek Cypriot police without a
search warrant descended to Resan Investment Company located in the
village of Pyla and illegally arrested Serkan Suleyman, the owner of the
company as a result of a disagreement between him and Hamit Mustafa the
owner of the building which the Company uses. Pyla is a village where
Turkish and Greek Cypriots live together and is under the control of the
United Nations Peace Keeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP).
TRNC Deputy Prime Ministry and Ministry
of Foreign Affairs in statement on the issue stated that the attitude of
the UNFICYP, which led the Greek Cypriot police to involve in the
disagreement between two Turkish Cypriots, was unacceptable.
The Ministry’s statement pointed out
that while the UNFICYP was expected to be impartial on the issue and to
act in line with the principle of equality in its contacts with the two
sides, its attitude of giving priority to the Greek Cypriot police in this
incident was unacceptable. The statement said: “Respecting the principle
of equality especially in Pyla, which has a special situation, is very
important. This expectation of us has been once more reminded to the
UNFICYP officials.”
The statement also noted that a working
committee would be set up with the aim of dealing with the problems in
Pyla village and finding solution to the problems of the Turkish Cypriots
residing in the village.
