NEW YEAR MESSAGE FROM FOREIGN MINISTER
AVCI
AVCI: “VALUES SUCH AS PEACE AND TOLERANCE SHOULD BE
ELEVATED”
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Avcý
stating that 2007 was the year when basic human
rights were violated and wars were experienced,
pointed out that he wished values such as peace and
tolerance to be elevated in the new year. He added
that respect for human rights was the best step to
be taken for a happy and tranquil world.
In his message issued for the new year Turgay Avcý
stating that everyone was feeling the joy and
happiness of entering a new year said every new year
was the start of a new beginning and hope.
Pointing out that the Turkish Cypriot people, whose
basic human rights were being violated, have been
struggling for the lifting of the inhuman isolation
Avcý said they had positive initiatives towards
ending the isolation and putting an end to the human
rights violation of the Turkish Cypriot people.
Avcý said; “integrating the Turkish Cypriot people
with the world, ensuring that they take their
rightful place within the international community and
increasing our country’s economic potential and
welfare will continue to be our main aim.”
Avcý added “Turkish Cypriot people have done its
utmost in 2007 in order to reach a just and lasting
settlement under the umbrella of the United Nations by
preserving its basic rights and liberties and will
continue to do so.
Turkish Cypriot side’s basic goal is still achieving
reconciliation in Cyprus. However, this is only
possible if the Greek Cypriot side has the same desire
and ready to give the same sacrifices. The current
attitude of the Greek Cypriot side does not comply
with this goal, on the contrary serves to the further
deepening the existing lack of confidence between the
two peoples.
I believe that our people will continue to overcome
its problems in unity and solidarity and the Turkish
Republic of Northern Cyprus will reach to better days
with the help of its institutions.
