TURKISH STATE MINISTER
TUZMEN: “TRNC IS UNDER UNJUST ISOLATION”
Turkish Minister of State Kursat
Tuzmen, who came to the TRNC in order to attend the 7th
Turkic World Forum, speaking to Anatolian News Agency
(AA) stated that Turkey and the TRNC were acting in
accordance with the EU principles and with the world,
however some countries were treating very unjustly
towards Turkey and the TRNC.
Minister Tuzmen referring to the
final communiqué of the EU General Affairs and External
Relations Council, said: “Sometimes they even show how
much they feel annoyed with the word “accession””.
On being reminded that the EU had not
kept its promises given to the Turkish Cypriots, Tuzmen
said: “A typical example of double standard. Furthermore,
this is a triad, a quartet standard”.
Tuzmen pointed out that despite the
unjust isolation the TRNC was standing on its own foot
and seriously increasing its economic performance.
Referring to the Greek Cypriot
administration’s efforts to prevent the ferryboat
services between Famagusta and Latakia, Tuzmen said this
was part of the unjust isolation.
Explaining that as a result of the
studies carried out they brought together the Turkic
world in the TRNC, Tuzmen said Turkey was doing its
utmost in order to enable transportation through TRNC’s
air and sea routes and increase its commercial relations
with Turkic states and all other neighboring countries
as well as with the countries in the region.
Drawing attention to the recent
interest shown in the TRNC by Syrian and other foreign
businessmen, Tuzmen said increase in commercial and
investment facilities would contribute to the
development of the TRNC’s economy and added that studies
in this respect would continue.
Stressing that the TRNC had an ideal
position for air and sea transportation, Tuzmen said the
TRNC should benefit from these opportunities and the
struggle in this direction would continue with
determination.
Calling upon the Greek Cypriot side,
Tuzmen said: “Such an artificial isolation cannot last”.
Minister Tuzmen returned to Turkey
yesterday (13 December).
