PRESIDENT TALAT SAHERES THE GRIEF OF THE PEOPLE OF
GREECE
TRNC Presidential Spokesman Hasan Ercakýca sated that President
Mehmet Ali Talat has been following the recent developments
regarding the said fire disaster closely and sharing the grief
of the people of Greece.
He said: “As the TRNC Presidency, we would like to convey our
deepest sympathy over the fire disaster in Greece. President
Talat would like to convey his deepest sympathy to the people of
Greece via the press. While we deliver our wishes for the speedy
recovery of those injured, we also wish that the fight against
the fire will soon be concluded successfully.”
TRNC PRESIDENCY: “WE HOPE THE ROAD TO COMPREHENSIVE
NEGOTIATIONS WILL BE OPENED”
The TRNC Presidency is expecting the road to comprehensive
negotiations to reopen after the meeting that will take place
between President Mehmet Ali Talat and the Greek Cypriot Leader
Mr. Tassos Papadopoulos on 5 September 2007.
At the weekly press conference held by the Presidential
Spokesman Mr. Hasan Ercakica, it has been stated that the
preparations concerning the meeting that will be held between
Mr. Talat and Mr. Papadopoulos on 5 September 2007 are being
carried out. It has also been stated that within this frame of
reference, the consultations with the political parties, the
government and Turkey are also being maintained.
Underlining that the Turkish Cypriot side is aware of the fact
that leaders of the political parties in the Greek Cypriot side
are exploiting the probable meetings they might have with
President Mehmet Ali Talat to the end of election purposes,
Spokesman Ercakica said “It seems that having a meeting with
President Talat or not is a factor that has great influence over
the Greek Cypriot electorate. In order to conclude the
speculations regarding the issue, we would like to state that
President Mehmet Ali Talat is ready to welcome all Greek Cypriot
political party leaders, journalists or intellectuals who wish
to have a meeting or exchange ideas with him”.
Responding to a question with regard to EU Term President
Portugal’s Foreign Minister Luis Filippe Margues Amado’s
visit only to South Cyprus Ercakýca said this approach has a
negative meaning which leads us to the understand that the EU
could not play a positive role with regard to a solution.
He added that this is the one of the negative results of Greek
Cypriot Administration’s one sided EU membership which also
affects diplomatic processes.
Ercakica also pointed out that the Turkish side’s annoyance
with regard to Portugal’s Foreign Minister Amando’s attitude
was also conveyed to Portugal’s Embassy.
PRESIDENT TALAT INFORMED POLITICAL PARTIES ON THE
CYPRUS ISSUE
President Mehmet Ali Talat started receiving representatives of
political parties with seats in the Parliament yesterday, as
part of an effort to exchange views and brief leading political
parties in the country on the latest developments on the Cyprus
Problem as well as his meeting scheduled to take place with the
Greek Cypriot leader Tassos Papadopoulos on the 5th of
September.
Representatives from the Democrat Party were the first to be
received by the President yesterday.
He is expected to hold similar meetings with representatives of
the main opposition National Unity Party and the Communal
Democracy Party today.
President Talat will be receiving the Republican Turkish Party
and the Freedom and Reform Party respectively on Friday.
