protara martyrs laıd to rest
Five out of six Turkish Cypriot
Martyrs, who were kidnapped by Greek Cypriots and executed by
shooting before being dumped into a well in the Protaras region
in South Cyprus on 11 May 1964 and found as a result of the
excavation studies, were buried with a military ceremony
yesterday (16 August).
The names of 5 Turkish Cypriot martyrs are;
Ahmet Mustafa Meddi, Hasan Ertugrul Veli, Huseyin Ahmet Sukru,
Hudaverdi Yusuf Osman and Mustafa Hasan.
The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister
Ferdi Sabit Soyer, Foreign Minister Turgay Avcı, the
Presidential Undersecretary Rasit Pertev, the Cyprus Turkish
Security Forces Major General Mehmet Eroz, Brigadier General
Namık Kemal Çalışkan, other officials, representatives of NGOs
and relatives of martyrs.
Speaking on behalf of the families of the
martyrs, Dr. Muge Beidoglu pointed out that during 43 years old
misery relatives of martyrs sometimes had hopes in their hearts,
sometimes their wounds were tore up and sometimes they felt very
angry.
Explaining that the faith of the missing
remained in uncertainty for many years, Beidoglu condemned Greek
Cypriot inhuman and monstrous violence.
Beidoglu expressed hope that “painful tears”
which have been part of everyone’s lives would end and said they
did not want anyone regardless of their nation, religion,
language and race to experience such a pain.
“May God
have mercy on them. Our all efforts are for providing a safe
atmosphere in which our children will grow up without violence”.
Following the prayer performed in the funeral
martyrs were laid to rest at
the Lefkosa Martyrs cemetery with a special military ceremony.
Other Turkish Cypriot Martyr Hasan Ziya, who
was found in the same well in Protaras, will be buried today
with a military ceremony to be held in Canbulat Martyrdom inside
Famagusta Castle.
