NEW TERM AT CTA
All the shares of Cyprus Turkish Airlines (CTA) have
now been transferred to the TRNC. Winning the tender to buy all 50 per
cent of the shares owned by Turkey, Ada Aviation from the TRNC signed the
contract to transfer the shares, which have been owned by Turkey for
almost 30 years, with the Republic of Turkey Privatization Administration.
Together with the transfer while half the value of the
tender, 16.5 million US Dollars, has already been paid in advance, the
remaining balance of 16.5 million US Dollars will be paid in two equal
instalments over a period of 2 years.
USA: NORTH CYPRUS' ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IS
VITAL
The US State Department's Undersecretary in charge of
European and Eurasian Affairs Matt Bryza stated that the State Department
had neither encouraged nor forbidden members of congress and businessmen
from flying to North Cyprus.
Bryza said the recent visit to North Cyprus by a
delegation of US congressmen did not mean that there was any change in the
USA's policy on Cyprus.
Pointing out that the US State Department did not have
the right to forbid such a visit, Bryza said this flight was in line with
international laws and US legal rules.
He also added that the State Department didn't agree
with the term, "occupied Cyprus".
Continuing, he said the USA was doing all it could to
further improve North Cyprus' economic situation, which would help to
facilitate the island's unification. Bryza said: "If we don't work now to
improve North Cyprus' economy then we might never be able to unite the
island".
