SERDAR DENKTAS: "TURKISH WORLD AND EURASIA
IS TURKEY'S BEST ALTERNATIVE"
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs
Serdar Denktas said a union of Turkish states should be established and
this should disturb no one.
Speaking at the World Turkish Youth Organization's
general meeting in Istanbul on 18 November, which was attended by 250
delegates from 41 Turkish States, Serdar Denktas said: "While many nations
and states regardless of their language, religion, race and cultural
differences come together and establish economic and political unions, the
Turkish State and communities should get together and combine their powers
and no one should be concerned by this and this shouldn't be regarded as a
threat".
"By being included in such a union the TRNC would
settle many of its problems, especially the issue of recognition", he said.
Evaluating Turkey's EU accession process, Serdar
Denktas said: "It's being mentioned that the best possibility for Turkey's
full accession into the EU would be within 15 years and that during this
negotiation process Turkey's counterparts would push Turkey to the limit
and perhaps at some point Turkey with its own request would put the
negotiations on hold. Therefore, Turkey should develop its own
alternatives for all kinds of developments. The Turkish world and Eurasia
is Turkey's best alternative".
In a separate meeting with the heads of the members of
the World Turkish Youth Organization, Serdar Denktas replying to a
question evaluated the TRNC's relations with the Turkish states and
communities and said: "The TRNC is engaging in efforts to develop
relations with the Turkish world. We thank the state officials of
Azerbaijan and Kirghizistan who extended their hand of help to us and
expect similar steps to be taken from other Turkish states".
