PRIME MINISTER SOYER: "PAPADOPOULOS ADMINISTRATION'S APPROACH IS RACIST"

Prime Minister Ferdi Sabit Soyer strongly reacted to the Greek Cypriot Administration who was trying to portray the expenses made by Greek Cypriots in the North Cyprus for goods and services as "the help that they given to the Turkish Cypriots".

Pointing out that it was incorrect for the Greek Cypriot Administration, who claims to be an EU member, to portray and evaluate the expenses made by Greek Cypriots in the North as "help" and this demonstrated just how contrary the Greek Cypriot Administration was to European principles, Prime Minister Soyer said; "At the same time, the Papadopoulos Administration's racist approach of warning Greek Cypriots not to cross over to the North and buy anything as this would contribute to their economy, was in line with the mentality of fanatical nationalism of the 19th Century".

Indicating that it was alleged that 100 million Cyprus Pounds in aid was given to the Turkish Cypriots, Prime Minister Soyer said this figure was related to the expenses made by Greek Cypriots who had crossed over to the North and it "was not aid". He said; "This is the expenses the Greek Cypriots have paid for benefiting from the goods and services produced by the Turkish Cypriot people. It's exactly the same as the contribution made by Turkish Cypriots visiting the South and paying for the goods and services produced there."

Recalling that the Greek Cypriot Administration was constantly saying that, 'there are 'X' number of Turkish Cypriots working in the South and we are paying them 'X' amounts of Cyprus Pounds and this is the aid we have given to the Turkish Cypriot people', Prime Minister Soyer said: "This is a lie. This is the money that the Turkish Cypriot people have earned in exchange for their work in line with the principle of the freedom of travel and in exchange for the contributions they have made to the Greek Cypriot economy through their labour force". He said the Turkish Cypriot people would never bow to these kinds of games and would try to develop its relations with the Greek Cypriot people by explaining the realities.
