SERDAR DENKTAS: "GREEK CYPRIOT GOVERNMENT
DOESN'T REALIZE THAT SOONER OR LATER IT WILL HAVE TO ARREST GREEK CYPRIOT
LIVING IN A TURKISH CYPRIOT HOUSE"
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign
Affairs Serdar Denktas speaking on a television programme stated that in
order to identify what could be done about the property cases that are
being filed by the Greek Cypriots a legal study was started 3 weeks ago.
Explaining that the Greek Cypriot side would encounter big problems in
their legal struggle, Serdar Denktas said; "Today the Greek Cypriot
government is issuing arrest warrants for Turkish Cypriots living in Greek
Cypriot houses but, it does not realize that sooner or later it will have
to arrest Greek Cypriots living in Turkish Cypriot houses. They sometimes
forget that they are in the EU. Although they've become EU members they
haven't become European".
Reiterating his warning for Turkish Cypriots not to
accept the courts summons sent to them by the Greek Cypriot side, he said
it seems that more cases would be filed by the Greek Cypriots, especially
targeting investors and businessmen.
Explaining that there were no new developments on the
Cyprus issue and that there was no reason for the Greek Cypriot leader
Tassos Papadopoulos to change his current policy, Serdar Denktas said
Papadopoulos had no intention of sharing anything with the Turkish
Cypriots under no conditions.
Indicating that the sending of a Greek Cypriot
representative to meet with the UN Secretary General in New York did not
change anything, Minister Denktas reminding that the UN Secretary General
had requested from the Greek Cypriot side it's reservations, complaints
and requests on the Annan Plan, said the Turkish Cypriot side was in the
process of preparing its reservations and complaints on the Annan Plan
that it would submit to the Secretary General.
He added that the TRNC Government had extended its hand
of peace and it expected this hand to be held.
