SERDAR DENKTAS: "CASES FILED BY GREEK
CYPRIOTS ARE A GREAT DESTRUCTION FOR RAPPROACHEMENT"
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign
Affairs Serdar Denktas has warned the United Nations about the courts
summons' that are disguised as Greek Cypriots seeking individual rights
and compensation for properties they left behind in North Cyprus before
1974 and are being issued to Turkish Cypriot citizens and foreigners to
appear before the Greek Cypriot courts. Pointing out that these
initiatives were aimed at making everyone living in the TRNC uneasy and
were accelerated after the opening of the border gates on 23 April 2003
and was a huge destruction action against the rapprochement efforts of the
two communities that had, up until now, been advancing in a positive
direction, Serdar Denktas said the following:
"Under the guidance and support of the Greek Cypriot
Administration of South Cyprus and disguised as Greek Cypriots seeking
individual rights for properties left behind in the North before 1974, it
has been identified that some of our citizens and foreigners living in the
TRNC are being issued with a courts summons for compensation cases that
have been filed against them and are being requested to appear before
Greek Cypriot courts.
With its 'no' votes the Greek Cypriot side has also
prevented the will displayed by the Turkish Cypriot side towards a
settlement in the 24 April referendum and is pursuing a strategy that will
pave the way for eliminating bizonality and it is evident that this will
not contribute to creating a constructive climate between the two sides.
On the issue of the severity of the case and the
incidents that could arise as a result, our Ministry has warned the United
Nations. No one has the right to bother the citizens of the TRNC and this
will not be allowed.
It is for this reason therefore that we feel it is
useful to announce that our people should be at ease, should not accept
any courts summons that may be issued and should immediately notify the
TRNC police of the names and car registration numbers of those people who
may come to serve this official notification in order to assist in the
arrest of these people, who in turn will be subjected to the necessary
legal proceedings."
