PRIME MINISTER TALAT "I CAN CALL THE UN FOR A NEW
INITIATIVE"
Republican Turkish Party –United Forces (CTP-BG)
delegation headed by Prime Minister Mehmet Ali Talat yesterday (March 29)
held a meeting and exchanged views with a delegation from DISI Party in
Greek Cypriot South Cyprus headed by their Leader Nikos Anastasiadis.
Speaking at a joint press conference
afterwards, Prime Minister Mehmet Ali Talat said following the TRNC
Presidential elections he could engage in a new initiative in order to
restart the negotiations and make a call to the UN to start a new effort.
Prime Minister Talat said during the meeting they discussed both party’s
future prospects regarding Cyprus and negotiations that will be held under
the auspices of the United Nations, based on the Annan plan.
Talat said they also expressed the view
that the new negotiation process should start as soon as possible and that
the CTP-BG is ready to engage in a new phase of negotiations for finding a
solution to the Cyprus issue and reuniting the island under the EU framework.
Pointing out that practical measures
should be taken in order to build confidence between the two people, Prime
Minister Talat underlined the importance of the need to cooperate on all
matters and practical issues and said they exchanged views on these issues
and will continue to their contacts.
For his part, DISI leader Nikos
Anastasiadis expressing his pleasure from finding a way of joining forces
through the dialogue said, they need a solution to reunite the island and
expressed the belief that Greece, Turkey and Cyprus should be a triangle of
peace and prosperity and not any more a place of tension.
