RACIST APPROACH FROM GREEK
CYPRIOT ADMINISTRATION
The Greek Cypriot administration refuses
to open the Turkish Cypriot primary school, which was planned to be opened
in Limassol for the Turkish Cypriot students, in return for the Greek
Cypriot secondary school in Dipkarpaz, which was administered by Greek
Cypriot teachers.
The Greek Cypriot Ministry for Education
and Culture, yesterday announced vacancies in the Turkish Cypriot press for
Turkish Cypriot teachers. The Greek Cypriot Education Ministry plans to
educate the Turkish Cypriot students living in Limassol at the 18. Limassol
Primary School, within the framework of its own education curriculum.
In response to this stance of the Greek
Cypriot administration, Prime Minister Mehmet Ali Talat, who started an
initiative via the United Nations said: "We want to administer the school in
South, just like the school administered in Dipkarpaz. Otherwise, same
status will be given to the School in Dipkarpaz."
ÇAGLAR REFUSED THE
ALLEGATIONS OF THE GREEK CYPRIOT ADMINISTRATION ABOUT THE VIOLATION OF
FLIGHT INFORMATION REGION
The TRNC New York Representative Reşat
Cağlar, in a letter adressed to the UN Secretary-General,
refused the Greek Cypriot allegations, that the Turkish planes
were violating the "airspace of the Republic of Cyprus and
the flight information region (FIR) of Nicosia".
In his letter which has been published as
a UN document, Çağlar stressed that the flights within
the sovereign airspace of the TRNC take place with the full knowledge
and consent of the appropriate authorities of the Turkish
Cypriot State, over which the Greek Cypriot
administration in South Cyprus has no jurisdiction or right of say
whatsoever.
Underlining that the Civil Aviation
Authority of the TRNC is the only competent authority
to provide air traffic and aeronautical information services, Çağlar stated
that the allegations regarding the violation of the "airspace
of the Republic of Cyprus and the flight information
region (FIR) of Nicosia", are baseless.
Pointing out that the UN Secretary General
Annan in his report dated May 28, submitted to the UN
Security Council, had called upon the international community to "put an end
to the unnecessary restrictions and obstacles which isolate the Turkish
Cypriots and prevent their improvement", Çaglar
stressed that despite this, the Greek Cypriot
administration through its negative campaigns is trying to prevent any kind
of initiatie which will ease the life of the Turkish Cypriots.
