TURKISH PRIME MINISTER ERDOGAN: "TRNC'S ISOLATION MUST END"
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said "we're
in favour of peace on the island", while the "Greek Cypriot side portrayed
themselves as separatists; against peace and the UN Plan, this side was
being applauded by the EU". Prime Minister Erdogan stressed that the Turkish
Cypriot side had fulfilled its responsibilities and that the embargoes
imposed upon the Turkish Cypriot side should be lifted.
Explaining that although the Greek Cypriot side voted
'no' in the 24 April 2004 referendum, it was rewarded with full EU
membership on 1 May 2005, Prime Minister Erdogan said the Turkish Cypriot
side was still being subjected to embargoes and this injustice was very
obvious. Pointing out that from now on, it should be the Greek Cypriot side
who should fulfil its responsibilities, Prime Minister Erdogan said the EU
had important responsibilities on this issue and this should be the lifting
of the embargoes.
