EFFORTS TO FORM NEW GOVERNMENT CONTINUE

Efforts to form the new TRNC government following the 20 February general elections are continuing as well as meetings and evaluations between the political parties regarding the political developments after the general elections and the forthcoming Presidential elections on April 17.

Within this framework, while the Republican Turkish Party - United Forces (CTP- BG) has had a series of meetings with the Communal Liberation Party (TKP) and the Cyprus Socialist Party (KSP) and the Democrat Party (DP) has met with the Peace and Democracy Movement (BDH) and the National Unity Party (UBP).

Meanwhile, President Denktas has stated that the duty of forming the new government would be given after the swearing in of the new MP's on 4 March.

The CTP, which will most probably be given the duty of forming the new government, in the CTP Party Assembly meeting on 28 February, confirming that the party would appoint its own candidate for the presidential elections, stated that it would also consider the Democrat Party's proposal to appoint a joint candidate for the presidential elections. Meanwhile, National Unity Party Leader, Dervis Eroglu, said his party's stance regarding the presidential elections was not yet determined.

 

TRNC REPRESENTED IN 9TH EMITT FAIR

The TRNC was represented at the 9th Eastern Mediterranean International Tourism and Travel Fair (EMITT) held in Istanbul between 24-27 February.

In a written statement issued by the Press Office of the TRNC Ministry for Economy and Tourism, it was stated that at the fair, which was attended by 1500 companies from Turkey and other countries, ministry and tourism offices from 9 different countries as well various institutions and companies from 8 countries were represented. Tunisia, Libya, The Seychelles, Indonesia, Lebanon, Thailand, Serbia and Georgia were represented for the first time in this year's fair.
