PRIME MINISTER SOYER: “WE’LL
CONTINUE WITH OUR POLITICAL STRUGGLE”
Prime Minister Ferdi Sabit Soyer said, “We
will neither abandon our pro-solution stance, nor bow to Mr.
Papadopoulos’s administration” and added that he pledged continued efforts
by the Turkish Cypriot side to help achieve a solution to the Cyprus
problem.
Prime Minister made
the speech after his meeting with the Commanders of the Turkish naval
vessels Led by Vice Admiral Lütfü Sancar, yesterday (21 June 2005). The
Commanders will attend the “Martyr Lieutenant Caner Gönyeli – 2005 Search
and Rescue Exercise”, today.
Ferdi Sabit Soyer
emphasized that the Turkish Cypriot people are –“as much entitled to the
right to exist on this island as the Greek Cypriots” and added that,
Turkish Cypriots have cultural and political ties with Turkey and one of
their principle objectives is to act con-jointly with Turkey for their
common political interests.
Prime Minister also drew
the attention that, such interaction between Turkey and TRNC have
historical importance to preserve and promote the deserved status of these
countries within the changing conjuncture of the world. Soyer pointed out
that “although the initiatives taken by the TRNC government, Presidency
and Republic of Turkey’s government and State have not yet received the
necessary reaction, we will continue searching for a viable and
unilaterally acceptable settlement to the Cyprus problem without any
concessions on our political equality and overall security.

ANASTASIADES: “STRONG WILL FOR A SOLUTION AND INITIATIVE TO START
NEGOTIATIONS IS MISSING”
A delegation from the
Democratic Rally Party (DISY) led by Nicos Anastasiades came to the TRNC
yesterday (21 June 2005) and met with the Leader of the Republican Turkish
Party (RTP) Ferdi Sabit Soyer and other members of the party.
Both leaders expressed
that they agreed to continue their meetings and intensify efforts towards
the resumption of dialogue leading to find a settlement in Cyprus.
Prime Minister Soyer
pointed out that the Turkish Cypriots have put forward their stance
towards a solution during the referandum and said currently, “both the
Turkish Cypriots and the UN Secretary General are waiting to hear what
changes the Greek Cypriot Leader Tassos Papadopoulos prefers in the Annan
Plan”.
DISY Leader Anastassiades
said that “they must work even more intensely and systematically, taking
into consideration the developments in the EU”. He underlined that, the
common ground exists and that it is the Annan Plan” adding however that,
“a strong will for a solution and the initiative for the resumption of the
talks is missing”.
MARTYR LIEUTENANT CANER GÖNYELÝ – 2005 SEARCH AND RESCUE
EXERCISE BEGAN TODAY
Civilian and military
elements of the search and rescue organisations of the Republic of Turkey
and TRNC are taking part in the Martyr Lieutenant Caner Gönyeli – 2005
Search and Rescue Exercise, which began in the territorial waters of the
TRNC.
Commander of the TRNC
Security Forces Full General Tevfik Özkýlýç gave a briefing about the
exercise, expressing that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus have
attained the necessary strength to join, in cooperation with Turkey, both
in the field of sovereignty and during all kinds of search and rescue
activities within the Eastern Meditteranean.
Full General Özkýlýç
underlined that, “the responsibility of carrying out search and rescue
activities in the TRNC air space and territorial waters belongs to the
Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, whereas for such activities in the
air space and international waters which fall to the north of Cyprus, the
responsibility belongs to the Republic of Turkey”.
Özkýlýç said: “the aim of
the exercise is to show that the unilaterally declared allegations by the
Greek Cypriot administration on search and rescue in Cyprus and Eastern
Mediterranean is unacceptable and, to underpin the importance of the joint
interests of the Republic of Turkey and TRNC.
