TASKENT VILLAGERS MARCHED FOR
THEIR MARTYRS TO BE GIVEN BACK
Taskent (Dohni) villagers on 24 December 2005
organized a march in Lefkosa proclaiming that the bones of their martyrs,
who were massacred in Taskent on 15 August 1974, to be given back to them.
Within the framework of 21-25 December
National Struggle and Martyrs Week, Taskent villagers, following the
laying of wreath to Taskent Martyrs Monument, marched to Ledra Palas
Crossing point and handed over a letter, requesting the return of their
Martyrs bones to the TRNC, to the UNFCYP to be passed to UN Secretary-General.
In the letter signed by Ömer Özman it was
stressed that the Takent villagers were determined to take back the bones
of their martyrs.
Öman stated that they although they
requested help from Annan and other officials for the return of their
martyrs they could not receive any response
In the letter the Taskent villagers
expressed their reaction to the fact that nobody was found responsible and
apologized form the inhuman massacre that their villagers subjected to.
The letter said that:
"We were astonished with the fact that the
massacre of 83 Turkish Cypriot, which was a crime against the humanity,
was not prevented by the UN. Therefore, we request from you to investigate
the issue, identify the responsible organizations and bring the authorized
Greek Cypriot authorities in front of the court.
We trust that, international courts and the
UN authorities would help that the responsible of this crime, which is
against the humanity, to be brought to justice."
