TRNC DELEGATION’S CONTACTS IN BAKU

SERDAR DENKTAŞ: “AIR TRAFFIC BETWEEN THE TRNC AND AZERBAIJAN WILL CONTINUE”

TRNC delegation headed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Serdar Denktaş, who went to Baku on Monday with a direct flight from the TRNC held contacts with the Azerbaijani Speaker of the Assembly, the Foreign Minister and the State Minister.

Serdar Denktas and Azerbaijani State Minister Nazım İbrahimov speaking after their meeting stated that the existing relations between the both countries would be further developed. İbrahimov pointed out that the direct flight between the TRNC and Azerbaijan would continue and if a recognition process started Azerbaijan would take the first step.

Furthermore the second economic cooperation forum between the businessmen of TRNC and Azerbaijan was held in Baku. Turkish-Azerbaijani Businessman Forum representatives pointed out that they would spent all kinds of efforts for the forum to be successful and would take all the necessary decisions.

TRNC’s First President Rauf Denktaş and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Serdar Denktaş yesterday participated to a dinner which was given in their honour by the Azerbaijani President İlham Aliyev and discussed political issues as well as economic issues.

In a press statement organized on Monday, Serdar Denktaş evaluated their Baku visit, which was held after 31 years through a direct flight.

Serdar Denktaş pointed out that TRNC-Azerbaijan relations would be further developed with the contacts to be held and that they were very pleased with their Baku visit. Foreign Minister Denktaş stated that in spite of the strong pressure from the Greek Cypriot side, Monday night they met with the Azerbaijani President Aliyev and Foreign Minister Memediyarov who promised that the relations between the two countries would be developed.

Serdar Denktaş pointed out that in the OIC meeting to be held next month they would receive full support of Azerbaijan and that Azerbaijan would also present a report on the TRNC to the Secretary-General.

Stating that delegations from each countries would continue to visit each other, Serdar Denktaş said he believed the Turkish Cypriots would receive same fruitful results from their contacts which they would have with other countries.

 

30 AUGUST VICTORY DAY CELEBRATED

30 August Victory day, the 83th anniversary of Mustafa Kemal’s victory against enemies’ occupation of Anatolia and Turkish Armed Forces day was celebrated with ceremonies in Lefkoşa, Girne and Gazimağusa. Following the Commander of the Turkish Cypriot Peace Forces Lieutenant-General Hasan Memişoğlu’s acceptance of well wishes from the public, a ceremony was held at the Atatürk Monument and Dr. Fazıl Küçük Boulveard.

At the ceremony in the Atatürk Monument, President Mehmet Ali Talat, Turkish Embassy’s Temporary Charge d’affaires Mehmet Poroy, and Commander of the Turkish Cypriot Peace Forces Lieutenant-General Hasan Memişoğlu signed the Special Book.

President Mehmet Ali Talat wrote the following to the Special Book:

"Great Atatürk; at the 83. anniversary of the 30 August Victory day, which was won in your military leadership, we are in your presence. At the anniversary of 30 August, which has a great importance in the establishment of Turkish Republic we are following your path. We are continuing to take determined decisions in order to protect and preserve the Turkish Cypriot people’s rights and to realize their integration with the world."
