TRNC'S NEW YORK REPRESENTATIVE CAGLAR: "GREEK CYPRIOT
ADMINISTRATION OCCUPYING GOVERNMENT SEAT IN CYPRUS"
The TRNC's New York Representative, Resat Caglar, in a
letter sent, which was published as a UN document, responded to allegations
made by the Greek Cypriot Administration's Permanent Representative to the
UN in New York. In his letter, Caglar said, it was true that Cyprus was
occupied, but this occupation was the years long usurpation of the "government"
seat by the Greek Cypriot side.
Explaining that there has not been a joint administration
on the island since 1963, Caglar said the Greek Cypriot side still continued
to allege that it was the "Cyprus Government".
Pointing out that the Greek Cypriot representative's
statements were not the first time that the Greek Cypriot side tried to
mislead international public opinion with its allegations, Caglar said
allegations to the effect that "Turkey is taking new steps aimed at
increasing its population in the north and is bringing new so-called
refugees to the country", was speculation and totally unfounded.
Reminding that EOKA members, who murdered Turkish
Cypriots, British citizens and even Greek Cypriots on the island, who didn't
share their own opinions, were recently honoured with medals in a ceremony
carried out in the Greek Cypriot side, Caglar said, the Turkish Cypriot side
was ready to form a new partnership on the island, but that for this to
happen it had to sit down at the negotiating table with a counterpart who
was ready to negotiate and would not resort to sly tactics.
"DIVISION" BETWEEN SOUTH CYPRUS AND GREECE
INCREASES
It has been stated that the division between South Cyprus
and Greece is steadily growing.
According to news reports from the Greek Cypriot press,
it has been stated that the cracks in relations between the Greek Cypriot
Administration and Greece is slowly increasing each day and that, although,
the two sides are trying very hard to conceal this reality, it has reached
the point where it can no longer be concealed.
The Greek Cypriot daily 'Alithia' reported that, Greek
Cypriot leader, Tassos Papadopoulos, had rejected the Greek government's
appointment of Kostas Tritarisi to South Cyprus. The daily said the fact
that the Greek Cypriot Administration had not appointed an ambassador to
Athens had created discomfort in Greece. For months, the Greek press has
been reporting that a Greek Cypriot Ambassador has not been appointed to
Athens and that South Cyprus' representation in Greece is at a much lower
level.
Meanwhile, since it didn't react to Cyprus's exclusion in
the map in the presentation of the NATO and EU military exercises, Greece is
being accused of not carrying out its responsibilities on the Cyprus issue.
