PRESIDENT DENKTAS EVALUATES EU REGULATIONS
In a statement given to the Cyprus News Agency (TAK)
yesterday (27 September), President Denktas evaluated the EU regulations.
Pointing out that after the Financial Assistance and Trade Regulations the
EU was continuing with its efforts to put the Turkish Cypriot people under
the hegemony of the Greek Cypriot government, President Denktas said these
packages were being turned into packages where Turkish Cypriots would have
to bow to the Greek Cypriots.
President Denktas said: "If we act as if we are a
minority dependent on the Greek Cypriots and don’t talk about our state,
equal sovereignty, then through these aids the EU will treat us as if we are
a minority status".
Explaining that the Greek Cypriot government was being
treated as if it was the only legitimate administration in Cyprus, President
Denktas said Greek Cypriot leader, Tassos Papadopoulos, was being given the
right to open and close TRNC ports.
Pointing out that the Greek Cypriots were acting as if
they were dominating the EU and were putting everything they wanted into the
regulations, the President said the TRNC Chamber of Commerce would only be
able to function according to the powers given to it by Papadopoulos.
Continuing, President Denktas said: "They (EU) say we
can’t use the aid in areas that belong to the Greek Cypriots. They ignore
the registered companies in the North and act as if the TRNC and our
legislature doesn’t exist. According to these laws there are also no
established companies in the North. In that case, these registered companies
can’t even take part in the tenders".
