TRNC TO PARTICIPATE IN THE OEC MEETINGS AS CYPRUS TURKISH STATE

Turkish State Minister Besir Atalay said it was decided that the TRNC would attend the Organization for Economic Cooperation meetings as the "Cyprus Turkish Muslim Community". Previously, the TRNC has participated in these meetings as the "Cyprus Turkish State".

Referring to the Organization for Economic Cooperation’s 8th summit meeting held in the Tadzhik Republic’s capital, Dushanbe, Minister Atalay pointing out that important studies were being carried out by Turkey regarding the TRNC’s recognition, said progress had been made on this issue and in the international arena the TRNC was recognized as a country that was following constructive policies.

Continuing, Minister Atalay said the decision for the TRNC to participate in future meetings as the "Cyprus Turkish State" was an extremely important development for Turkey.

 

GREEK CYPRIOT SECONDARY SCHOOL IN KARPAS STARTS ACADEMIC YEAR

Within the framework of the TRNC Council of Ministers goodwill to grant permission for the opening of a Greek Cypriot secondary school in Karpas, registrations commenced yesterday (13 September) and the academic year will officially start on Wednesday (15 September).

12 students have already enrolled in the school, which was opened with the aim of giving education to Greek Cypriot pupils in Greek, and this number is expected to increase in the forthcoming days. The school’s restoration costs, which totalled 205 billon TL, were paid from the TRNC Budget. It was stated that 17 teachers would teach in the school, which has 4 classrooms, 1 computer room as well as separate rooms for the headmaster and staff room.

While two of the 17 teachers are living in Karpas, the rest will travel daily from the Greek Cypriot side to teach in the new school.
