MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS: "FILELEFTHEROS’ NEWS
BLAMING TURKISH PEACE FORCES IS TOTALLY UNREALISTIC"
Deputy Prime Ministry and Ministry of
Foreign Affairs stressed that the news article published in the Greek
Cypriot Daily Fileleftheros on 5 September, blaming Turkish Peace Forces for
the bomb event at St. Mamas Church in Guzelyurt, was totally unrealistic and
imaginary.
The written statement issued yesterday (7
September) by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, pointed out that the Deputy
Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Serdar Denktas condemned the
bomb attack by making an official statement and also by giving a statement
to Greek Cypriot Daily Politis against the allegations by Fileleftheros
Daily (published in South Cyprus) that the attack at St. Mamas Church was
not condemned by Serdar Denktas.
Deputy Prime Ministry and Ministry of
Foreign Affairs’ statement is as follows:
"Fileleftheros Daily in South Cyprus, in
its news article published on 5 September not only claimed that the
personnel of Turkish Peace Forces were responsible for the bomb event at St.
Mamas Church, but also alleged that the said personnel were arrested.
The abovementioned news article is full of
unrealistic claims and is far from being true. Fileleftheros daily by
claiming that this imaginary news article was based on the news sources in
the TRNC, in fact, aims at creating speculative arguements regarding the
Turkish troops.
In addition, in contrast with the
allegations in Fileleftheros, the event in St. Mamas Church was condemned by
our Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Serdar Denktas
both in Turkish Cypriot press and in Greek Cypriot press by his official
statement and by his statement given to Politis Daily in South Cyprus.
In this context, it should be remembered
that the unrealistic news and speculaitons could not go beyond creating
unnecessary disturbance and that the press is responsible to have a common
sense on this issue."
