PRIME MINISTER TALAT: "GREEK CYPRIOT ADMINISTRATION AIMS TO CONTINUE THE
ISOLATION"
Prime Minister
Mehmet Ali Talat stated that the Greek Cypriot Administration was trying to
stop the Turkish Cypriots' economic development. In an interview given to
the Greek Cypriot daily "Fileleftheros", the Prime Minister pointing out
that the Turkish Cypriot side's economic development would facilitate a
Cyprus settlement, said the Greek Cypriot side didn't want to sit down at
the negotiating table with an economically strong Turkish Cypriot side.
Explaining that
under the leadership of Tassos Papadopoulos the Greek Cypriot Administration
was engaging in intensive efforts to hinder the development of the Turkish
Cypriots, Prime Minister Talat underlined that the Greek Cypriot side's
primary concern was to prevent the TRNC economy from further developing and
being in the position of competing with the Greek Cypriot economy.
The Prime
Minister said: "The Greek Cypriot Administration wants the isolation imposed
upon us to continue, for us to remain poor and be dependent on them".
