PRESIDENT DENKTAS: "GREEK CYPRIOTS WILL BE SUED
FOR DAMAGES AS A RESULT OF MASSACRES AGAINST TURKISH CYPRIOTS"
President Rauf R. Denktas yesterday (25
August), received Honorary Representative of Jordan, Ali Eburubeyha. During
the meeting President Denktas explained that the Greek Cypriots will be sued
for damages as a result of the massacres against unarmed Turkish Cypriot
civilians and gave information about the graveyards of Turkish Cypriot
martyrs in the Greek Cypriot side.
Stressing that the preparations for sueing
the Greek Cypriots for the damages as a result of massacres against the
Turkish Cypriots were at their final stage, President Denktas said the Greek
Cypriots would be punished. Pointing out that any amount of compensation
could not eliminate the Turkish Cypriots’ 30 years long psychological
trauma, President Denktas said he had seen the photos of the graveyards of
the Turkish Cypriot martyrs in the South and they had been raised to the
ground and used as car parks. President Denktas stated that he had a deal
with Cleridis that when the graveyards were opened, first the martyrs in the
said graveyards would be given to the Turkish Cypriot side. President
Denktas stressed that those people whom their parents were massacred in
front of their eyes had been interrogated and a committee had been
established to sue the Greek Cypriots and that the compensation for the
damages should be demanded. Continuing, President Denktas said:
"I am not talking about people who were
killed during the war. These are all sad events but, they are the events
which occurred as a result of the Greek Cypriots’ actions to dominate the
whole island. I am talking about those Greek Cypriots who by violating a
ceasefire agreement had massacred unarmed Turkish Cypriot civilians. We want
to announce the world that we are still under the effect of the 30 years
long psychological trauma. Any amount of compensation could not eliminate
this trauma. However, those Greek Cypriots who are responsible for the
massacres against the Turkish Cypriots will be punished."
