During his meeting with the mukhtar of
Yilmazkoy and his accompanying delegation yesterday, TRNC President Rauf
Denktas, upon being reminded by a reporter of statements that "the
Annan plan is still on the table, and whether these contradicted with his
own statements or not", responded by saying: "This is not a
contradiction. The same authorities also say that in its present form the
plan is unacceptable at the table. We also say that it is unacceptable in
its present form."
Stressing that in order for the plan to be
acceptable the Turkish Cypriot side has basic requirements, President
Denktas said if it is to be acceptable, what is important is whether they
will accept our basic requirements or not.
President Denktas said: "Just like
us, Turkey accepts our basic requirements, but not the map". He added:
"We are the ones who will be living with the Greek Cypriots here, not
Hannay nor Weston"
The President also added that since it
would be the Turkish Cypriots who would be living on the island, for this to
be appropriate, they should constantly think and put forward what should be
done.
JOINT DECLARATION FROM SEVEN
ORGANISATIONS
A joint declaration was issued yesterday
by the TRNC Human Rights Association, the TRNC Public Servants Union, the
TRNC Mothers Association, the TRNC Consumers Association, the Association of
Cyprus Turkish Refugees From The South Who Suffered Damages, the Cyprus
Turkish Consumers Union, and the Baf Turkish Union.
The declaration pointing out that history
has not witnessed people giving up their state, said through wide spread
media propaganda that is being carried out under the guidance of the EU, it
is desired to eliminate the unity and solidarity of the Turkish Cypriot
people. The declaration added that the Turkish Cypriot peoples’ rejection
of the Annan plan should not be evaluated as being a rejection of peace and
a solution.
It also pointed out that the Turkish
Cypriot people want to achieve peace and a settlement in a secure and
tranquil environment, which has been prevailing for the last 30 years, under
its own independent state and flag.
