DENKTAS: "EFFORTS
UNDERWAY TO OPEN COMPENSATION CASES REGARDING OUR MARTYRS IN THE GREEK
CYPRIOT SIDE…FAMILIES OF MARTRYS SHOULD BE PATIENT"
TRNC President Rauf
Denktas yesterday received a delegation from the Association for Remembering
the Aleminyo Marytrs and pointing out that preparations were already
underway to file cases for compensation in the Greek Cypriot side called
upon the martyrs’ families to be patient.
Pointing out that accompanied by Greek
Cypriots, certain people are going to the families of the (Turkish Cypriot)
martyrs and requesting them to give blood so that the (Turkish Cypriot)
martyrs’ buried in the South can be identified and handed over to their
families in the North, President Denktas warned the martyrs’ families to
be patient and said, the Greek Cypriots by trying to hand over these
martyrs, one by one, are trying to conceal the massacres that they carried
out in these mass graves and are running away from the burden of
compensating the families of those people.
The President pointing out that, just as
there are in the South, there are also mass graves in the North of Greek
Cypriots who were killled by Greek Cypriots during the Greek coup, said in
the event of the places of these mass graves being identified by the Greek
Cypriots the remains of those killed could be handed back to their families
in the South. He added that in this way it would be possible to proceed to
the stage of carrying out reciprocal searches on the graves and to exchange
the remains.

U.S. SENATOR WEXLER:
"PRESIDENT DENKTAS’ CONCERNS ON THE ANNAN PLAN ARE LEGITIMATE"
One of the founders of the "Turkish
Friends Group" in the U.S.A Congress, Senator Robert Wexler from
Florida of the Democrat Party has stated that President Denktas’ concerns
on the Annan Plan are legitimate and that these concerns should seriously be
taken into consideration.
Speaking on "The Voice of
America" radio program Senator Wexler pointing out that he had recently
visited Cyprus said: "America should do everything she can to bring the
two sides in Cyprus to the negotiating table; to make new and serious
proposals aimed at increasing the trust between the two sides; and encourage
both sides to seriously evaluate each others proposals. Recently, President
Denktas has put forward such proposals and these should be seriously
evaluated. I listened to President Denktas’ concerns regarding the UN
plan. These are legitimate concerns and should be seriously evaluated and
responded to".
