THE GREEK CYPRIOTS DEMAND AIR ROUTE OVER TRNC TERRITORIES

The Greek Cypriots has applied to International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to demand air route over TRNC territories. The Minister of Public Works and Transport also responsible from Civil Aviation Mr.Salih Miroğlu reacted this harassment very sharply. The Minister informed President Denktaş about this application.

As it is known TRNC Civil Aviation Office is the only authority responsible from TRNC’s air space and air routes over TRNC.

The Minister issued the following statement:

Contrary to the spirit of on going negotiations process aiming to find a just and lasting solution to the Cyprus issue the Greek Cypriot Administration has attempted to violate TRNC’s sovereignty rights over her territories.

The Greek Cypriot Administration has proposed and amendment of the ICAO EUR Basic Air Navigation Plan to ICAO Regional Director Europe and North Atlantic to demand air route over TRNC’s territories in addition to her existing air route confirmed by the ICAO.

The Greek Cypriot proposal for Amendment of the Basic Air Navigation Plan to ICAO Regional Director Europe and North Atlantic ATS routes subject to amendment procedure affect the territory of TRNC as well as Ercan Advisory Airspace, where the government of TRNC is the legitimate authority representing the Turkish Cypriot people and has been providing Air Traffic, Aeronautical Information and Alerting Services since 1977. The Greek Cypriot Administration does not possess the right or authority to act or to speak behalf of Cyprus as a whole.

TRNC invites all the concerned parties to participate in any initiative requesting cooperation in respect to the management of the airspace in the region, as the sole legitimate representative of the Turkish Cypriot people.
