PRESIDENT
DENKTAŞ “TURKISH SIDE GETS ITS STRENHGTH FROM THE
MOTHERLAND”
President Denktaş has said that the Turkish Cypriot people
will not sign an agreement that will make them
refugees again.
Speaking to a group of visitors yesterday, the President said
that what is being tried to be achieved at the ongoing
talks is to reach an agreement which will pave the way
for the peoples of the island to live in security and
respect each other’s rights and equality.
He said, such an agreement should also make it possible for
the peoples of the island to cooperate and to live
under a common administration on the basis of good
neighbourly relations, where the three basic freedoms
will have to be limited, and Turkey’s rights
safeguarded.
As to the continuing direct negotiations, he said
difficulties still exist and everything is being done
to overcome them.
He also pointed to the agreed principle that there would be
no agreement before agreement is reached on every
issue.
Saying
that the Turkish Cypriot Side gets its strength from
its Motherland and its people.
STATEMENT
BY THE TRNC MINISTERY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS AND DEFENCE
In
a statement issued yesterday the TRNC Ministry of
Foreign Affairs and Defense
reacted
sharply to Greek Cypriot policy of arming to teeth.
In
the statement on the issue, the TRNC Ministry of
Foreign Affairs and Defense said that this latest move
constitutes a new dimension in the Greek Cypriot
Administration’s hectic arming campaign. The recent
purchase of attack helicopters, U 2 Spy planes are all
contrary to the spirit of the ongoing negotiations
process, and the military status quo on the island.
