President Rauf Denktaþ and the
Leader of the Greek Cypriot Administration Glafcos
Clerides met again yesterday to continue with their
direct negotiations aimed at finding a lasting
solution to the Cyprus problem.
The meeting at the Lefkosa
Conference Center in the UN-controlled buffer zone
took place in the presence of the UN Secretary General’s
Special Adviser on Cyprus Alvaro de Soto, who is
joining the talks as an observer.
Speaking to reporters before his
departure for the meeting, President Denktaþ reminded
that there would be no agreement without agreement on
all issues being discussed.
He denied as exaggeration,
speculation on the Greek Cypriot press that the
meeting would be crucial, and said that everyone
should wait till the end of the negotiations process.
As to the remarks made by the
Spokesman of the Greek Cypriot Administration that two
separate sovereignties on the island would be
unacceptable, President Denktaþ reminded that there
already exist two sovereign states on the island.
